Porcelain Veneers
in Santa Monica

Dr. Kathy Zahedi

Porcelain veneers are a relatively conservative dental treatment, requiring very little modification. The end result is a beautiful smile that will last for years to come. Due to the overall design of a veneer, most of the original tooth integrity remains intact, only to be masked by a layer of porcelain. A thin porcelain veneer is bonded onto a tooth’s prepped surface, much like a false nail is applied to a natural fingernail. This veneer is made specifically for your mouth, covering the entire face of your teeth in porcelain that has been color-matched to your natural or whitened shade.

Your veneers are made in our dental lab, which is easily matched to nearly any contour, shade, or shape. Veneers are not prone to fading or yellowing over time and can be customized to individual requirements. As with many dental solutions, porcelain veneers are not permanent and may begin to wear out or chip with time. Typically, one can expect somewhere around ten years out of their veneers, especially with proper care. Patients can still enjoy their favorite food and drink while also improving their smile quality.

If you are looking to eliminate the appearance of any unsightly gaps between your teeth or find yourself embarrassed over tooth discoloration or damage, porcelain veneers may be a great option. While there are some limitations inherent with porcelain veneers, they provide a great solution to countless patients. And, although it’s true veneers aren’t a viable option for every patient, we are more than happy to discuss the options available to you during a consultation.

Having porcelain veneers made typically requires two office appointments. At your first appointment, we begin by starting with a numbing agent before prepping your teeth and making an impression. Your impression is then sent to our dental laboratory in order to create your final veneers, which generally takes about two weeks. In the meantime, we will make some acrylic veneers while your porcelain veneers are being made. Your second appointment is catered around an accurate fit, shape, and shade. If everything is correct, your acrylic veneers will be removed, and the porcelain veneers will be bonded to your teeth in their place. A numbing agent is not required during the second appointment, and porcelain veneers usually allow patients to eat and drink immediately.

In addition to providing porcelains veneers to residents of Santa Monica and the surrounding areas, we also provide the following cosmetic dentistry services: dental bonding, teeth whitening, and complete smile make overs.
